Light Rope in Cove Reflector

BLCOVE-4-GW	If you wish to do cove lighting around an 18' x 14' room, the efficient way to illuminate this area would be utilizing a 24V system (3 bulbs per foot) and 5 watt, possibly frosted bulbs. This would require 2 runs with only one TR-24-960 in the middle.

New NSL Light Rope Meets the Tough New UL 2388 Flexible Lighting Products Standard

Underwriters Laboratories published a new standard for Light Rope type products in the fall of 2002. This new standard is known as UL 2388 - Flexible Lighting Products. All manufacturers had until November of 2003 to manufacture product to the old UL 1571 - Incandescent Fixtures standard. Any new product must be manufactured to the new, tighter standards of UL 2388 - Flexible Lighting Products. There are many design and construction changes required by UL 2388, most of which are summarized below

No field cutting. This ends the sales of bulk 150' and 300' spools. All Light Rope sold now will have to include a cut of the dimension desired, molded ends, a fused plug and mounting components. End users will now only be able to connect and disconnect molded ends of pre-cut Lengths, and cutting and splicing of sections is not allowed in the field. We will be supplying Light Rope pre-cut in retail and bulk packages per the literature attached.

SJT power cords with fused plugs. UL 2388 requires fused plugs and an SJT power cord on all product listed for 110VAC outdoor use, but will allow a non-fused plug for 110VAC indoor use. As we can see no way to control the location of product leaving our facility, NSL will only supply SJT cords with fused plugs. This is the highest level of protection we can afford both you and your customers.

Stronger PVC and less heat output. UL 2388 has much more stringent testing of the PVC and abnormal applications than the old standard. This results in a product that emits much less heat and our design consumes only about 40% of the wattage per foot of the old product. This does mean less light output but to the eye we find little difference.

450 ft. maximum run and 36" section Length. The lower heat output required more bulbs to spread the energy across and our design now has a series section Length of every 36" in both 1/2" Width and 3/8" Width vs. every 18" or 20" in the old product. The good news from all the redesign for the lower heat output is that we now have a maximum single run of 450 ft. per plug vs. 150 ft. per plug in the old product, At this time the longest section we are shipping is 150 ft. You may connect three 150' sections together.

Mounting system design. UL 2388 requires any mounting system design to allow the end user to remove the Light Rope without using a tool. Gone are the old NL/NS-005 nail clips. In their place is the new RLR-006 mounting clips with a press-in and lift-out design. The popular NL/NS-010 4 ft. plastic mounting channel, and all of our aluminum and PVC channels will also meet the design criteria and will continue to be offered.
