The Altus is another example of Ron Rezek using pure geometry to bring forth attractive and sophisticated design in a ceiling fan. Artistically compact, the Altus features an organic shape that lends itself to virtually any interior. Designed by Ron Rezek.

European design during the first decade of the twentieth century was a crucible of theory and practice, ranging from the florid beauty of the French Art Nouveau to the roots of the German Bauhaus.

Belgian designer and theorist Henry van de Velde called for the unification of art, the re-evaluation of the role of craftsman and designer, the recognition that we are able "to impress beauty upon every aspect of our lives, that the artist should no longer simply paint pictures, but rather create whole rooms, or even whole dwellings, with wallpapers and furniture as well as paintings."

The Secessionist Movement in Austria produced applied arts during the early years that are remarkable for their geometric refinement and elegant simplicity. It is best typified by Josef Hoffmann and Koloman Moser, who co-founded the Wiener Werkst├Ątte (Vienna Workshop) in 1903.

"In an age dominated by second-rate production and a numbing imitation of the past, the Werkst├Ątte saw its initial mission as one of reduction and divestment, to eliminate familiar historical and naturalistic motifs while simultaneously reviving meticulous craftsmanship."

The Period Arts Fan Company strives to meet this same goal with our Altus and Lapa fans. As with the Secessionist designs, they are divested of superfluous embellishment and built to the highest quality.

Energy Information

Altus / Altus Flush Mount ("Hugger")

Watts: 71
CFM: 6422
CFM/Watt: 91

Ceiling fan manufacturers are required by federal law to publish the energy information for their products in a standardized format, including watts used, cubic feet of air moved per minute (CFM) and a resulting CFM per watt efficiency value. The test results are gathered in a controlled environment and are intended to help consumers and specifiers compare products. However, keep in mind that in a real world installation there are a number of additional factors that will affect air movement patterns and volume.

All Modern Fan products move air in the upper range of fans on the market. While emerging DC motor fans (like our DC Slim) are reaching new levels of efficiency, it's important to remember that all ceiling fans are inherently efficient and use very little electricity to begin with. Choosing Fluorescent lamps instead of incandescent (tungsten) or halogen equivalents represents the greatest opportunity for energy savings.

The test data to the left represents electricity useage of the motor only (independent of any lighting component). Assume 52" blade span unless indicated otherwise.
